Having sprained my ankle bad enough to not be able to walk recently, social distancing hasn’t been too hard for me. But the pandemic has created a requirement to pivot my Parts of my Capstone project. Going all digital for my deliverables isn’t the biggest pivot for me because I had planned on modeling some of my project anyway, it just allows me to spend more time on the virtual aspects of my project. This does, however, bring a lot of questions with it though. My original plan was to have a few demonstrations with my physical model that was meant to ‘Wow’ the judges so how can I pivot my virtual project to reflect that? I can use animations to show these models, but there are a few complications that come with that. The first is the development of those animations. I am not the greatest animator and would need to learn a lot of new techniques. That's not that hard to overcome as I do enjoy learning these things. My second problem would be the render time. Blenders render times for animations that show the aspects of my projects would take a month of straight rendering. This is a problem I don't have an answer to yet, but I will find #theacademyway! The other aspect I lose with going all virtual is the reduced interaction from the judges to my model. This is hard to come up with solutions for, but the best I can think of is gamifying my models in some way, but that will have to come later. Although this pandemic has caused many problems for many people it's important to keep looking forward and spend all this newly acquired free time responsibly innovating!
Even Buildings Need to Social Distance!
